Therapy can Help . . .
● You or your child learn to cope with feelings of
anxiety, depression, or
frustration
● Reduce symptoms of stress including worries, nightmares,
jumping at noises
● Provide a safe place to heal from traumatic injuries and
memories
Traumatic histories can be healed. Fears, worries,
nightmares, lack of energy, jumping at noises, smells, and other trauma
symptoms can be relieved with therapy. Children may
show symptoms of inattentiveness, acting out, struggles with peers,
argue more, talk
back, or withdrawal.
People from all walks of life can suffer trauma or abuse including
domestic violence, other forms of violence, sexual abuse and
rape. I provide counseling for adults, couples, adolescents and
children with histories of trauma.
Individual and couples counseling can be supportive for adults with
trauma histories.
Family
and individual therapy can be supportive for adolescents and children.
Parents are often at a loss to understand how abuse could have happened
to their children or what to do to help.
Parents, caregivers and trusted adults are often
the most important supports for children who have suffered trauma or
abuse. Parent sessions are designed to provide caregivers
with
additional tools they may need to enhance the support of your
child. These sessions also give parents and caregivers a place to
express their concerns, worries and other difficult feelings. Sessions
for parents and their child or adolescent
together often provide the greatest relief to both.
Adolescents may also find it important to have a place to express their
feelings and concerns, which individual therapy provides.
The aim of treatment is to reduce symptoms, anxieties, and worries and
to
ensure that your child can follow their instincts when in danger and
know who to go to for help.
